“Although I am still unsure about my technique, I feel that my paintings have allowed people to understand my worldview and to expand their imaginations. Numbering around 30 artworks in total, the exhibition also includes bronze sculptures of Takahashi’s fairytale-ish “Grace creatures”-the otherworldly long-necked beings that have appeared alongside his work for Undercover intermittently over the last 15 years.īuoyed by the success of the exhibit, Takahashi is planning to produce more work in the future. “Although there are many painters I respect, I wanted to stick to my own taste and method, so I relied on my intuition for all of my paintings,” he said. Its the latest statement from Takahashis Undercoveroffering audacious looks. Nodding to the ever-evolving nature of our modern world, the collection delivers bold silhouettes designed for movement in changing conditions. There’s a surrealist tint to the works-it’s easy to see Rene Magritte in the faceless portraits, or Leonora Carrington in the groups of spookily dressed magicians-but Takahashi didn’t intentionally take inspiration from anyone. The latest collab from Jun Takahashi and Nike is inspired by the chaos and balance of the technology age. “My experience in fashion is helpful when it comes to choosing colors, and the color balance of the entire painting is an element that greatly influences the style of the painting,” he said. And, yet, founder Jun Takahashi has never put his stamp on a car, until now. Still, he admitted that the choice of colors-creams, sweeping gray-blues, bright apple reds-are something he can credit to his design background. UNDERCOVER has done so many collaborations that a corner of its web store is dedicated specifically to special releases.
